Cavities (tooth decay) are caused by the destruction of the enamel layer of your tooth by bacteria found in plaque. They can be prevented by good brushing and flossing to remove plaque and regular dental visits. If you have a cavity, you may be experiencing some sensitivity in your tooth. Smaller cavities may cause no sensitivity at all, but can be seen on your checkup x-rays.
If you have a cavity, we will recommend the placement of a filling to clean out the decay and seal the tooth back up. In the past silver colored fillings, also known as amalgams, were used most frequently to fill teeth. With improvements in bonding systems, we now mostly use tooth colored fillings, also known as composites. This improves the esthetics of our restorations and keeps your smile nice and white!
Before your appointment we will discuss all treatment options/material choices and answer any questions you may have. Our goal is to help you feel comfortable!
